It’s time to stop looking for “recovery” (as in ways to resurrect this drooling zombie of an industrial economy) and start seeding transformation (as in building a 21st century economy, that turns most or all of the toxic dynamics above upside down). It’s time to stop thinking about getting back to yesterday’s prosperity — and time to start thinking about how to get past it.
It’s business owner’s worst nightmare: Customers walk in the door and walk right back out.
For Twiddy & Company, a 95-person firm that connects vacation renters with beach houses in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, that meant customers clicking on their Web site and promptly abandoning it.
China should guard against risks from “excessive” holdings of U.S. assets as Washington could pursue a policy to weaken the dollar, a senior currency regulator said in comments published on a website that briefly pushed the dollar lower.
However, the comments by Guan Tao of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange were quickly removed from the website at his request.
THIS WEEK’S HEADLINES:
“You can’t put a price on a good education”… or can you?
If you ask your parents or mentors how to become successful, their answer will most likely include four interrelated invisible scripts:
“Get the best education you can.”
“Colleges provide the best education.”
“The best colleges are expensive.”
“More college is better.”
Like so many of the invisible scripts we grow up with, three of these assumptions aren’t necessarily true.
In a casual conversation someone quipped, “You know the real problem with politicians…they just won’t stay bought.” There was muted laughter. It’s too true to be funny.
Politician. The word has precise sound to it, as if your mayor had been called by God to run. As if people go into public service like it’s a ministry. For the good of all with pure, honorable intentions. But the job is nothing like that. It’s a lot of arm twisting and ear bending by people all wanting you to do conflicting things. And in 
the end, nobody’s really happy with you. As Parker and Stone pointed out, the public sees you either as a ‘Giant Douche’ or a ‘Turd Sandwich’. Why would anyone want a such a shitty job?
