Boeing reports no orders for second straight month | CNN

Boeing reported no new commercial aircraft orders in May. It was the second straight month that Boeing’s orders were at a standstill in the face of the 737 Max crisis.

The drop in orders isn’t only because of the grounding of the 737 Max. Boeing also has a massive backorder of about 5,000 planes. Many of its customers do not need to place orders for additional jets right now.

Next week is also the Paris Air Show, the key industry trade show for the year, at which Boeing and rival Airbus typically like to announce orders. So May is often a slower month for new orders.

Study Says Millennials Embrace Job-Hopping | Business News Daily

For many years, having a career meant finding an employer and sticking with it until retirement. However, according to a new survey, millennials are likely to change jobs frequently, and they see that as a necessary step for career advancement.

The 2019 Millennial Manager Workplace Survey, released earlier today by Akumina, reports that 75% of millennials believe that constantly changing jobs advanced their careers. The survey’s data is based on information provided by more than 1,000 mid- to executive-level managers between the ages of 18 and 36 years old. The company conducted the survey to “gain insights into the realities of millennial managers’ career journeys, workplace needs and technology preferences.”

Night Owls and Morning Larks, Make Room for ‘Afternoon People’ and ‘Nappers’ | Live Science

If you don’t quite fit in among the morning people or night owls, well, you might soon have your own, more relatable, sleep category.

Now, researchers propose two more so-called chronotypes: the “afternoon” person and the “napper.” A chronotype is defined by the time of day a person is most alert and sleepiest.

A group of researchers in Belgium created and distributed a short online survey to over 1,300 people, ages 12 to 90, asking them questions about their sleep habits and tiredness levels throughout the day. They then analyzed the results in collaboration with a group in Russia.

Why Negative Self Talk Is Bad for You (And How to End It in 3 Steps)| Life Hack

Everyone I met in my life wants unlimited opportunities, better relationships, a healthy body, a forgiving heart, a sharp mind, amazing skills, and financial security… If we all want these things, how come we can not accomplish them?

I think the reason why many of us can’t cannot accomplish them is because we have a critical inner voice inside our head that tends to be negative and convincing. We have a negative self-talk.

Our inner voice is trying to convince us that we are not smart enough, strong enough or good enough to do what we want to do in life. This invisible enemy is harmful and it inhibits us from pursuing the life that we deserve. It leads to anxiety and depression.

Six Approaches to the Basics of Entrepreneurial Self Care | Marketing for Hippies

So, let’s talk about self care.

But first, let’s let Audre Lorde talk about it: “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

It’s easy to want to dismiss self-care as giving up or giving too little. But it might actually be a type of resistance.

Brianna Wiest also has something vital to say here,

“Self-care is often a very unbeautiful thing. It is making a spreadsheet of your debt and enforcing a morning routine and cooking yourself healthy meals and no longer just running from your problems and calling the distraction a solution.

Workday BrandVoice: How To Support Employees In Their Roles As Caregivers | Forbes

Mother’s Day is nearly here—a time to celebrate women and their roles as caregivers. While it’s an invaluable job, it can also be underappreciated at times. So as we approach this special day, I want to take a moment to focus on that word, caregivers, and the full reach of its meaning.

First, I’m a caregiver for my son. He’s a typical toddler—funny, energetic, stubborn, and learning at about a thousand miles an hour. My husband and I, who both have careers, are focused on being present, engaged, and giving him all the love and support he deserves, so we manage the delicate balance of ensuring one of us is always in the right place at the right time.

I’m also a caregiver to my dad. He is 86 and has progressive dementia. Late one night a few years ago, a neighbor found him, confused, in the front yard of his house in Atlanta. We soon found out he was no longer able to take his heart medications or handle basic tasks at home.

Who Wants the Global Talent | Management Consulting Connection

For all of its faults, the United States has been the destination of choice for emigrants since – well – for half a century. Personally, I have friends and family who got their green cards just within the last few years. The US continues to be a magnet for talented and ambitious risk takers. Bill Kerr, Harvard Professor, titled his most recent book, The Gift of Global Talent: How Immigration Shapes Business, Economics, and Society and his thesis is simple – even if the data collection was difficult – immigrants drive a large % of growth, innovation, and entrepreneurship. People want to live and work here, and that’s largely been a big blessing. Factoid: 40% of US cancer researchers are immigrants.

US economy = huge demand

Times are good (yes, looking at the stock market this week, you might not think so), and unemployment in the US is at a 50 year low. As of October 2018, there were 7M unfilled jobs in the United States.  This includes 450,000 highly-skilled manufacturing jobs. It’s a fairly basic tenet of economics that suppliers will try to fulfill demand. Here’s a data point, H1B visa season starts April 1. There are 85K visa to allocate, and typically there are 300K applications after one week.
