Apple’s AI plans for the iPhone just leaked. Here’s what we know | Digital Trends

Apple is the only major name in the world of Big Tech that hasn’t made its ambitious AI plans public yet. But that will change in a few weeks, with a focus on reimagining the iPhone experience. Bloomberg, citing internal sources, has detailed how Apple plans to integrate generative AI experiences with iOS 18, the next major build of its iPhone operating system.

The company plans to push new AI-powered capabilities not just in such in-house apps as Safari and Maps, but also in experiences like the notification system and a supercharged Spotlight search. Notably, Apple will push the bulk of AI processing to the iPhone’s silicon, and only a minor portion of it will be pushed to the cloud.

Apple working to fix alarming iPhone issue | BBC News

Apple says it is working quickly to fix an issue that caused some iPhone alarms not to play a sound, giving their slumbering users an unexpected lie-in.

For many people, their phone is an indispensable alarm clock and some over-sleepers turned to social media to vent.

One TikTokker complained that she had set “like five alarms” and they didn’t go off.

Apple has confirmed it is aware of the issue – but is yet to spell out what it believes is causing it, or what users can do to avoid a late start.

It is also unclear how many people are affected or whether the problem is restricted to particular models of iPhone.

iOS 18 tipped to redesign 4 apps | Mashable

The iOS 18 hype train is building up speed.

Apple’s next iteration of iPhone software is set to be announced at WWDC 2024 in June, but as always, we’re learning a lot about it ahead of time. The latest scoop comes from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, who claimed in his latest Power On newsletter that four key iOS apps are getting revamped or redesigned for iOS 18.

Which iOS 18 apps are getting big changes?

According to Gurman, the following built-in apps are getting significant updates:

  • Fitness
  • Mail
  • Photos
  • Notes

Unfortunately, Gurman didn’t go into specific details about what to expect from the aforementioned changes. However, that doesn’t mean we’re completely out of luck. Thanks to leaks and industry whispers, we can make some educated guesses. Recent rumors suggest that the Notes app could get mathematical notation and built-in voice memos, putting it more on par with Microsoft’s OneNote app.

iPad 2024: 2 new models tipped to drop soon — and may come with this iPhone feature | Mashable

Time to add more fuel to the “new iPads” fire.

As spotted by 91Mobiles, the Bureau of Indian Standards (or BIS) let slip that two new iPads are coming soon by putting their model numbers on the BIS website. Basically, that means the new iPads have passed India’s regulatory standards and can legally be sold there.

That’s not surprising, as there have been rumors about new iPads launching in the first half of 2024 for months. What is sort of unexpected, however, is that MacRumors spotted some text strings in iPadOS 17.5 beta 1 suggesting that the iPhone’s “battery health” menu is coming to iPads.

How to use iMessage on Windows using Phone Link

I’m Gen Z, and I ditched my iPhone for the Light Phone II for a week

My name is Jennimai, and I am addicted to my iPhone.

As a Gen Z-er, I can barely remember a time before smartphones. My first cell phone was a purple monster with a sliding screen. I traded it in for my first iPhone in 2013 and never looked back.

I do everything on my phone: text, FaceTime, mindlessly scroll for hours and hours. I can hardly imagine going even a day without touching my phone, and I have no interest in the resurgence of nostalgic tech the rest of my generation is so intrigued by. So, imagine how I felt when I turned off my beloved iPhone for a week.

Yes, dear reader, I tried not to use my iPhone for seven whole days. In its place, I used the Light Phone II, which launched in 2018 via Kickstarter after a successful run of the original Light Phone in 2015. Here’s how it went.
