Bryn Jurkins has come up with an idea she thinks will be a hit with busy women. Sent Her Way is a service that ships women their feminine hygiene products monthly, taking away that sometimes last minute trip to the store. Women can customize their tampon orders eliminating or increasing the quantity for a particular size, something not available when purchasing off the shelf. Add to this the convenience of having the product delivered to their door for a dollar more than they would pay in a CVS or Walgreens.
She came up with the idea while working in sales for a garment manufacturer in New York City. “Whatever you buy in the City you have to carry,” she explains, “So I would have my dry cleaning delivered, my dog food delivered. It’s amazing the things that you can get delivered to you.”
“There’s nothing worse than having to go out on a rainy night to pick up supplies,” She continues, “and I thought, I need this every month, why can’t I get this delivered.” It was this epiphany that caused her to start Sent Her Way. Your customized order is sent to you every 28 days in a small package that fits in any mailbox.
“The best part is you don’t have to remember to pick your supplies up,” Bryn says. “I’m thirty and I still forget,” leading to evening runs to the local store.
She sees her clients being busy professional women and moms that are so busy they lose track of purchasing needed supplies. She sees a market where more and more women are buying clothes and goods online and sees this as a natural extension of that buying behavior.
Her initial launch has targeted major metropolitan areas including New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles. She’s had her first successes in places with unpredictable weather. “The last thing you want to do in a storm is run to the store to by tampons,” she said. She’s also having success in some rural areas where a quick jaunt to the market is not an option. Women appreciate the convenience of their feminine supplies being delivered to them.
Sent Her Way was launched in January, 2012. The company was featured in a radio interview on NPR. The interview drove a dramatic increase in sales that reassured Bryn that she was onto something. The company has been growing ever since.
Her plans for immediate growth of the company include adding Advil or other pain remedies as well as providing more product and brand options. Eventually she would like to expand to additional feminine focused products such as razors. She is also investigating if she can ship birth control pills as part of the monthly shipments.
